The above link takes you to an article I wrote a few years back on training for the heat.
As you may or may not know I grew up in the North, near Calgary, AB in Canada and pre-global warming. That is a scary thing to say.
Anyways, I had never raced well in the heat until I started sauna training. I admit that I still have problems with ironman racing in the heat since I sweat a lot (3+ lbs/hr) especially for my size. But, I don’t really have problems with the heat aside from that and I actually quite like the feeling now.
If you have key races coming up and have been training in cold (Canada) or cool (Northern States and BC coast) then I highly recommend sauna training! More often than not, races are hot that occur in June. Why leave your race up to chance.
Get used to the heat now by using the Sauna (or go to Kona, see my training pic below, it is like a sauna)!

Does it matter, what kind of sauna? Woodburning, infrared, electric? Leil or no leil?
I had heard about the Olympics in the beginning of the century that really popularized the sauna when the Finns took the running competitions with a landslide in the hot weather, but I never knew that people actually practiced it and that it really was useful.
Cheers!
